Self-Care for Physicians and Future Physicians
At NOVA Southwestern University in Florida, we addressed 250 first-year medical students about our Bodyscapes workshops with HIV+ populations. Our focus was how to overcome fear, prejudice and aversion to patients based on sexuality. Our goal was to realize our own humanity and the importance of empathy and compassion in the healing process. The students took part in a mini-Bodyscapes session with empathy as the theme and learned that providers too can benefit from art’s healing power. We also conducted a Fast and Furous Bodyscapes mini for women nurses and physicians during a Faculty Wellness Lunch.
