“One of San Francisco’s LGBTQ community’s most beloved ‘characters’ and volunteers”

Larry Petit loved two things--volunteerism and the arts. Each week, he fulfilled at least one volunteer commitment AND attended one to two art exhibitions or artistic performances. In our community, Larry was known for always wearing either pink or purple shirts.  But, on the day of the Bodyscapes Age, Survive and Thrive art exhibition opening event, he walked into the gallery dressed sharp! When questioned about this dramatic change to his personal style, he responded “I reserve an all black look for special artistic occasions.”

Larry’s poem below shares the all-to-common pain among people aging with HIV.

Here is a link to an article written about Larry in A&U magazine.

Larry Petit, Depression, 2017

It’s the depression
But not the Great Depression
Inane, disorganized
A road to nowhere
Unsupervised
and unproductive in any way
Me, the victim
at the bottom of the pit
The angel of the pit
